Those who know me best know that I am a routine type of gal who only occasionally allows for changes to my routine in the event of extreme circumstances! It's not that I don't enjoy spontaneity but I have just found that having good daily habits has been the secret to my success in home, life, and work.
When I was a child my mother would have me select and iron my clothes the night before in preparation for the next day. She didn't believe in sleeping in after a certain time nor did she think pajamas were suitable to be worn once you got out of bed. She insisted that my two sisters and I not sleep our day away. She would call out early each day, "Pumpkin, Chas, and Nish! Rise and shine!" Her command alone wasn't enough to draw three little girls to their feet, but the scent of sausage and bacon saturating the air surely was. The anticipation of hot fresh buttermilk pancakes with warm syrup would draw us from our bedroom to the bathroom to "shower, shave, and shine" as my mother so eloquently would put it. Those glorious mornings with my mother left a solid imprint on me and I continue to "seize the day" even at the age of 40.
Over the years I have tweaked my momma's concepts and made them my own. I share them with you today with the hope and the prayer that they do for your days what they do for mine-give them the best start!
1) RISE and LIFT - RISE early before everyone else does to set the tone for your day. Make adjustments to your attitude, mood, or dispositions that are unpleasant and will keep you from looking forward to all the goodness coming your way. LIFT your hands and tell God "thank you" for all that you have. Morning Meditation #1: Proverbs 8:17 I love them that love me; and those that seek me early shall find me.
2) DRINK A SHOT OF JESUS CAPPUCCINO - "A little dab will do you!" Greet Jesus and ask Him in PRAYER for His guidance, help, and direction for your day. Fill your inner cup with a scripture or daily devotional, listen to a WORSHIP song, and MEDITATE on God's word. Have an open heart and let God into your life to fill your cup. Morning Meditaton #2: Mathew 5:6 Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they will be filled.
3) SHINE - Get dressed for the day whether you plan to leave the house or not. Shower, Shave, and prepare to Shine! Take the necessary steps to prepare yourself for the work that awaits you. Dress yourself both naturally and spiritually. Morning Meditation #3: Colossians 3:12 Therefore, as God's chosen people, holy and dearly loved, clothe yourselves with compassion, kindness, humility, gentleness, and patience. Ephesians 6:11 Put on the full armour of God, so that you can take your stand against the devil’s schemes. (For extra readiness read Ephesians 6:11-20 in its entirety!)
Bonus Tip: Do something you enjoy! I love hot beverages and fresh flowers. I'm borderline obsessed with both. Every morning I fix myself a cup of coffee, cappuccino, or tea. The warmth of the mug in my hand, the smell of the drink and fresh flowers, the quietness of the house, and watching the sun come up makes my spirit come alive. These habits afford me serenity and an appreciation for life that infuses me with the will to be the best that I can be not matter what my day may bring. I realized long ago that all I need is HJC (HIGHHEELS, JESUS, and a CAPPUCCINO) to get my day started right!
I would love to hear from you! What spirit lifting habits do you have to start your day off right? If you like this post please SHARE, LIKE, COMMENT on Facebook, Instagram, and Twitter, and SUBSCRIBE at www.chastitystemmons.com.
