3 Words That Will Change Your Life

I woke up this morning with a lot on my mind so I quickly entered into prayer before the hustle of the day began. Breakfast, hair-combing/dressing and kid drop-offs were just an hour away but I desperately needed the stillness of God to settle my spirit, which was all over the place.

Maybe you’ve had mornings like this...mornings where the roller coaster of life suddenly feels as if it is spinning out of control. It could be due to an illness, troubled relationship, job loss, or simply an overwhelming schedule. Truthfully, it is a common feeling for women who are balancing it all.

For a girl like me who lives by systems, routines, and schedules, this particular onset of emotion was so strong that it threatened my impending morning routine. However, the day still awaited my participation so I knew I had to take action. I've been a Christian for a while now so every sermon about what a good Christian should do in moments of uncertainty began to flood my mind. Phrases like: "praise Him in advance”, “worship Him for who He is and not what He can do for you”, and “count it all joy" rushed to my mind but strangely brought no relief.

I understood very well the power of praise and have taught others about the need for worship but for some reason I had "nothing" to give from those two categories. All I had to offer up was 3 little words: "I need you!" That was the very best I had.

As I uttered those words, immense guilt began to attack me because I didn't feel I had more to give. I knew I was "ASKING" rather than “GIVING" Him the best praise & worship due HIS name and I knew that this is not what I SHOULD do. Yet, in that moment I cast myself fully upon the Lord with those 3 little words which I hoped would bring guidance, wisdom, comfort, and hope.

I realized immediately that the fight for the freedom to simply need God could only be combatted with His word. Before I knew it, God began to answer. Despite my lack of eloquence, He answered my 3 word prayer with 3 scriptures that silenced the guilt that the critic that dwelled in my head was trying to bind me with and brought me back to a place of peace.

3 words - I NEED YOU - produced 3 powerful scriptures that restored my comfort, joy, peace, and praise. The point of this post is not to diminish the need to praise and worship God - these are two essential elements of prayer. I am simply suggesting that there are times when you can just come to God humbly believing that he is the ONLY ONE who can revive and refresh you in your deepest hour of need. Through this experience I learned that just as a child sometimes just NEEDS her parents, it’s okay to just NEED our father God. The words "I NEED YOU" when directed to JESUS can change your life.

My hope and prayer is that these scriptures do for you what they did for me. I encourage you this week to add those 3 life changing words to your daily praise and worship routine. Let me know how it helped you and please pass this along to anyone who is need of HIM today.

Matthew 11:28 (NIV)

28 Come to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and I will give you rest.

Psalms 23:1-4 (NIV)

The Lord is my shepherd, I lack nothing.

2 He makes me lie down in green pastures,

he leads me beside quiet waters,

3 he refreshes my soul.

He guides me along the right paths

for his name’s sake.

4 Even though I walk

through the darkest valley,[a]

I will fear no evil,

for you are with me;

your rod and your staff,

they comfort me.

1 Peter: 6-7 (NIV)

6 Humble yourselves, therefore, under God’s mighty hand,

that he may lift you up in due time.

7 Cast all your anxiety on him because he cares for you.
