Hey Pretty lady! It's that time of year when you want to stay snuggled up in a blanket drinking some hot cocoa with marshmallows and watch Netflix all day long with your hair in a bun and some fuzzy slippers on. However, for most women it's not an option to stay warm and cozy by the fire all winter long sipping on hot beverages. Life continues even when there is snow in the driveway and you can literally see your breath in the cold brisk air. We must forge ahead to stay fashion forward and not let ourselves go during this time of year.
I'm super passionate about YOU looking and feeling your very best in every season of your life. I couldn't wait to share some leggings, layers, and lazy day outfit tips so you can rock your style, your way all winter long. I took some fashion cues from my legging loving friend, Latriece Kimbrough! Latriece is a wife, mother of two (the M&M's, Madison and Mathew), CFO, and overall legging obsessed wearing hot momma. This chica will wear a legging with pretty much anything (dress, pumps, high boots, sweater, jackets...YOU NAME IT she has probably tried it!) Girlfriend, don't run from leggings! They can be fun and fashionable in the winter with these easy and practical tips.
Choose your leggings according to your personal style
Leggings are a fun way to express your mood, personality, and personal style so choose leggings that make you smile (bright colors, patterns, prints, and different textures). For example eel-skin leggings make any top look chic. Latriece is a fiery trendy mom on the go and she wanted to reflect that in a not so calm but classic color combination (red, black, and white). When choosing a legging for the winter you want to select a fabric that is thicker and will provide not only warmth but support for those unforgiving dimples some of us may have acquired over the years. Pair your leggings with something that covers your tushhhh
When you are over 30 my suggestion or rule of thumb is to keep it classy at all times! I understand that some choose to wear leggings as pants or jeans but the truth is they're not jeans or pants...they are leggings! With that being said I personally believe different rules should apply when you are styling comfy and stylish leg wear. Latriece did it right! Latriece paired her 3 dimensional leggings with a sweater that falls right underneath her bottom leaving a little mystery for her husband and a whole lot of sophistication for onlookers. You can always go longer on the shirt length but not shorter unless your are pairing it with a longer jacket.
Layer your leggings with a sweater and coat
Winter wear requires a few layered pieces in order to keep warm and ohh so chic. You might want to start with a fitted tank top under your sweater or shirt to create a smooth texture next to your body (some sweaters are made with a more itchy fabric so be mindful of that when buying). Latriece added a soft loose fitting turtle neck sweater that was movable, functional, and fashionable for her busy day. She then added a gorgeous mid-length black coat vest that keeps her looking uber sophisticated and quite sassy for her outdoor errands. When layering clothes play around with how the pieces work together so that you will not have bulges in awkward places. (sweater and coat vest: BCBGMAXAZRIA)
Finish your look with a fabulous shoe or boot and get to stepping
When choosing footwear think about where you are going and how long you will be on your feet (shoes have a meter! YIKES) but don't forfeit style just because your going for a more casual look rather than couture. Latriece is walking into her day with her black and white printed pumps that adds that extra jushhh to polish off her look. (shoes: Vince Camuto)
