Hey Dolls, I hope you are having a healthy and happy new year so far! Every Year Ryan and I put in place goals and strategizes that we want to achieve as a family and we make adjustment to old habits that need a little revision. One of the areas we always address is our Health and Fitness. As many of you know I gained weight last year, 12.8 pounds to be exact and I'm proud to report that I have made some minor adjustments that has helped me regain control in those areas of my life that needed my attention. Although Ryan is the head of our household and leads out in most areas of our family he has allowed me to make the health and wellness decisions for me and the three little nuggets. With that being said, I'm in charge of keeping up with the children's dental and doctors appointments and anything pertaining to their health and fitness. I set forth family fun "activities" that we all can participate in and I lovingly took on the role and responsibility of Chief Healthy Mom and Kids Commander.
Healthy Eating For The Family
My oldest son when he was younger struggled with proper food portions and because of that he would have been considered slightly overweight. Upon recognizing some of his eating habits as a small child I knew I needed to take the initiative to implement family fun fitness routines that were more about moving than working out. I also started to stock our refrigerator and pantry with better food choices for all of us to choose from when they were having a snack attack. I am not saying we never have chips and M&M's but it's more of a rare commodity than a option. As a family we enjoy bike rides on scenic routes, parks, and a little game of basketball in the driveway and pretty much all of our vacations we take as a family are geared around outdoor activities (skiing, swimming, hiking, and walking). We have learned to care about each others health and we all work together to look out for each others well being.
One of the greatest blessings that came out of my sons weight concerns was that our family memories have been centered around healthy living and outside adventures. I never want any of my children including myself to ever focus on vanity as the core reason to care for their bodies rather than to honor what it says in
3 JOHN 1:2 Dear Friend, I pray that you may enjoy good health and that all may go well with you,
even as your soul is getting along well.
I made it my personal mission for me and the children to approach it from a spiritual place by incorporating healthy lifestyle habits that honored God. If you haven't noticed by now I'm passionate about families soaring in every area of their lives including their health and wellness. My hope is if you haven't already decided to be a healthy family that you would implement just a few small changes this year by incorporating new recipes the whole family can enjoy.
