So What, We Aren't Spring Chickens Anymore
Hey, Chica! In my last post, I mentioned that this year I'm doing more of what I L O V E and less of what I don't, and one thing I absolutely LOVE, LOVE, LOVE is sporting different hairstyles and styling myself into an over forty fashionista. On my recent sabbatical, I realized how much I missed getting dressed up and putting together one-of-a-kind outfits for myself and empowering woman like you to look and feel your best at all times. I know some of us are not spring chickens anymore, but I prefer to think of us as SPICY CHICAS ready for spring! Yas!
Speaking of spicy chicas, it's time to get deep and spiritual. Stay with me and don't click away from this post, because this is where it gets juicy! You see, every person is unique, amazing, and special in their own right according to God's word. Even when we don't feel special, we can rest assured that each one of us was indeed made to bring God glory. If you don't believe me, check out how King David described it in this scripture:
I will praise You, for I am fearfully and wonderfully made;
Marvelous are Your works, and that my souls knows very well.
Psalm 139:14 NKJV
This scripture implies that David had high self-esteem, based on His knowledge that God was a creator of marvelous things. "If all HIS works are marvelous," thought David, "I must be too!" God is the creator, and we are His creation, and He cares about the details of all of His work - including us.
Friends, David was right! We are his finest creation. He didn't make a mistake on "nan' one of us." I honestly believe that when God was finished with each human being, He paused, stepped back, did a final glance over, and thought to Himself "it doesn't get much better than this!" His confidence in us often doesn't match how we see ourselves, but in order to be successful in life, we need to align the two. If we only could agree with God's opinion of ourselves, we would be much better off.
Now, some of us may have thought we were pretty hot stuff when we were young even when we didn't know what God had said about us in His word! It's when we're aging, however, that this concept is most hard to grasp. I recently turned forty-something and all of sudden it seemed as if every fine line in my face was screaming for attention, (not to mention that butt of mine is still struggling to fit in my jeans). As I have increased in age, I have also increased in size (YIKES!), and now I have to deal with thoughts that I never considered before. You know - thoughts of face fillers (pros and cons), body wraps, vitamins, and skin care. Hey, don't judge me! I didn't say I made an appointment, but I've had these discussions with everyone I know including myself, my husband, my great aunt, aunt, and my older sister in the last few months. I felt assured by all of them that they too faced the issues of aging from weight gain to menopause to, simply put, vanity. It seems that no woman gracefully endures the loss of her youthful beauty without a fight (at least not in my family).
It finally dawned on me, however, that when God left us with scriptures like the one above, He wanted you and me to believe them as long as we have breath in our bodies. Not just when we are young, but also when we are gracefully growing older. It's easy to fall into the trap of thinking that there were some missing ingredients left out of us at creation, or that we are somehow malfunctioning as we age. But the truth is, God doesn't make mistakes or change His mind about us. He wants us to believe now and forever more that we are "fearfully and wonderfully" made simply because He made us. It's true! We aren't spring chickens anymore, but we have something far greater than youth - the faith that we are loved by our eternal GOD.
I encourage you to dress up and show up to your life daily knowing that you are a modern day Mona Lisa! As time goes by, I'm learning to appreciate and take care of myself as I feel God would have me to, and I hope you would do the same. Here is a little spring style inspiration I wanted to share with you in the hope that you create a one-of-a-kind outfit of your own. Remember, you are God's best creation and prize possession, and when you align your internal beauty with your external beauty you are an explosion of goodness waiting for the world to take notice!
