Hey Jushhhy Friends!!!!
The chill has fallen (brrrr!) and it’s time to get not just our wardrobes ready for the months ahead, but our homes as well. If you’re like most of us, you’re already thinking about how you can turn up the heat inside, now that the temperature has dropped. If you have no idea where to start, never fear, The Homemaker in High Heels is here to help you “jushhh into fall!”
Use What You Have
We all start designing with the basics in mind. You might already have a neutral couch, curtains, and rug and are wondering how you are ever going to turn your home into a fall wonderland. Well, you will be happy and surprised to learn that those neutrals you already own provide the perfect base for fall-inspired home decor. Tan and beige mix perfectly with all your favorite fall colors like burgundy, orange, gold, and forest green. Keep those neutrals, honey, and build from them. You already have everything you need!
And speaking of having what you need, did you know you can grab natural elements from outside your home to “jushhh it up” for fall? That’s right - branches, pine cones, and leaves can all be used with a little spray paint and creativity!
Beat the System
We all want to spruce up for fall, but we also are going to need to save some coins for Christmas, so please don’t break the bank when you are buying fall decor. Every $1 store (including Deals, Everything’s A Dollar, & Target’s $1 Entry Shop) has great fall finds that will mix well with more expensive pieces. Don’t be afraid to start there because (trust me, honey) no one will know the difference!
When you’re ready to take things up a notch, wait for the sales at your favorite home decor stores. Michael’s, Hobby Lobby, and other stores offering seasonal goods, will have all your fall faves on sale for 50% off or more in just a few weeks. They have to clear the shelves to get ready for Christmas, so the end of the season is the perfect time for you to swoop in and buy all those fall-inspired plates, mugs, runners, and chargers!
Warm Up Your Home and Heart with Color, Fire, and Fur
This might be my favorite and most secret-sauce tip! You must warm up your heart to achieve the look you want to have in your home. How do you want people to feel when they are relaxing on your sofa? Nothing says love like a fur pillow, rug, or throw for guests to snuggle with in front of the fireplace. If your home doesn’t have a hearth, don’t worry! You can purchase one at Home Depot or online for less than you think. You can also use scented candles to convey warmth and love.
Color helps things feel more warm as well. Again, don’t throw out what you have. If your base is blue, add gold, orange, and brown on top of it to make your home feel like a warm fall retreat. The point is, don’t forget to turn up the heat, no matter what you do!
