"Mirror, mirror on the wall, who is the fairest of them all?"
"Friendship with oneself is all important, because without it one cannot be friends with anyone else in the world." Eleanor Roosevelt
Hello Doll Babies! Spring/summer is here and I'm all in, are you? If you have been following my blog you will remember reading my CHUBBY GIRL DIARY post about my 12 pound weight gain in the throws of my summer vacation in 2016 and how I handled it. Fast forward to today and my dreams of whittling back down to my svelte- toned body by the end of 2017 has fallen by the "waist" side literally. I made many attempts to get super serious about getting back in shape and into my clothes and then something wonderful happened in the process. I learned not to sweat the small stuff or the big stuff for that matter. Instead I have put myself through some liberating tests that have truly helped me to accept who I am today! This process has been life-changing and I couldn't help but to share it with you because I live for helping others love themselves no matter what state they may find themselves in.
Count the Gain/Loss
I have since made some progress since my last Chubby Girl Diary Entry and I'm pretty proud of it. I would like to talk first about what I gained in the process. The first thing I gained is a whole batch of acceptance and gratitude for my new body. I am so proud of how it has held up for me after all it's been through. The next thing my new body has afforded me is the understanding that I'm truly not my body-no way Jose' and girlfriend neither are you. I don't want to sound like a broken record but we have to stop picking on ourselves! As women we can get hung up on the simplest things like imperfections and flaws that have nothing to do with who we really are.
Everyday our life matters to somebody who God strategically placed in it and not for some shallow reason either. I'm on a mission to encourage women to "fight for their fancy" and to "dress up to show up to their lives" as is! Let's be clear showing up is not about your weight, height, color, or some temporary delusion we are fixated on. However, it is believing that who you are is enough to run your own race right now and knowing you are worth it! We all have heard by now how bomb-diggity the Proverbs 31 woman was and surprise they never mentioned what size clothes she wore...Go FIGURE. Instead the text talks about her work and her relationships! I want to remind those who need to show their body some grace what it says about the woman who lives her life in service to God.
"Many women do noble things, but you surpass them all. Charm is deceptive, and beauty is fleeting; but a woman who fears the Lord is to be praised."
I hope this passage inspires you to give yourself a break and give yourself a hand for still standing strong being the best person you can be. I suggest you make a list of things that you want to be remembered for. I promise you fitting in a size smaller pair of jeans or wearing a bikini will not make the list.
Last but not least I gained a whole lot of confidence in my appearance to the point somedays I prefer not to wear make-up and rock my hair pulled up in a bun or tucked under a wig. My 12 lb weight gain (read here) was actually a blessing to my self-esteem. I recognize now more than ever that who I am can't be determined by what the number says on the scale. I say this humbly, "I really like me!" The one dress size up me. Truth is I have never felt more alive, sassy, and beautiful in my own skin. Speaking of dresses I'm featuring a dress that I'm totally in love with! I feel like a princess in this cap sleeve metallic floral dress! This little number had me feeling all kinds of girly and beautiful! The best part is Jesus hooked me up because it was on sale! Girlfriend you can snatch one up before they are all gone. This little number accentuates in all the right places especially for my petite doll babies. Get yours right here ---->.
One last lesson I gained from all of this is I give myself permission to live in the now, enjoy food, and work-out later! In the last fews years I stopped all of the head junk nonsense. I use to restrict myself in the past of really enjoying what I was doing in the moment worrying about the consequences of eating wrong foods. I'm not suggesting you eat junk food everyday simply because it will eventually work against your body. I'm talking about eating the whole piece of cheesecake slowly with that hot cappuccino while chatting with a girlfriend and not having that annoying inner voice conversation beating you up telling you how bad it is. Instead I'm telling you to enjoy the moment, work-out later, and make better food choices one day at a time.
Now onto the loses! I am happy to report with some consistent workout routines, slight adjustments and a lot of self-care I lost a whopping 5.5 lbs. in the last 3-4 weeks. I know what you are thinking that isn't very much weight loss since last year but I must say I haven't been happier.
I'm choosing the oven instead of the microwave version of my weight loss journey because I want to experience getting to know myself better as I age gracefully and handle life daily as it comes. I'm on the right track and if I want to look a slight bit smaller I'll just stuff my little love handles into a spanx and keep it moving! I pray that you give yourself grace and permission to enjoy your life too!
